BHOPAL: At a time when most markets are falling short woefully in terms of following the corona protocol, the market at 10 Number stop can actually be projected as an ‘ideal’ shopping place of the city in terms of ‘Covid-19 appropriate behaviour’ — both by shopkeepers and customers.
When TOI visited the market in the afternoon, it was heartening to see 90% of people wearing masks and shopkeepers making sure that social distancing is maintained by customers standing at quite a distance from the shops.
“Most of our customers come from the ‘elite’ section, well-educated and aware of how they are expected to behave in corona times. We don't have to tell them to stand at a distance or come wearing masks very often, but we have put pamphlets outside the shop, making a request to stand in circles and come with masks,” said the owner of a grocery shop in the market.
“Masks are compulsory at my shop. If someone comes to my shop without wearing a mask, I plainly tell him to speak from a distance, take his stuff and leave,” said another shopkeeper.
Shopkeepers said that customers, themselves, avoid going to a shop where either the shopkeeper or the staff are not wearing masks. It's only the hotels or eateries in the market, where people can be seen without masks, they said.
