About Aanandaa Permaculture Farm
Our story is one of adventure, grit, and perseverance. In 2010 when we learned about permaculture for the first time, something told us that we needed to do this. Within a few weeks, we found land near Chandigarh (our home town) and got started! Even though we lived in Mumbai, and had busy corporate jobs, it didn’t deter us from pursuing a long-distance project. Instead, we found new energy and purpose in our lives, reading-researching-executing permaculture principles into action!
We started with a barren piece of land, and over time planted over 5000 trees, built water harvesting structures, and rejuvenated the soil back to health. We spent most of our holidays and long weekends on this land, working with it and enjoying the reconnection with nature. The contrast to the overpopulated metropolis of Mumbai was jarring, and in 2016 we relocated to Gurgaon, with an aim to be closer to the farm and enjoy more of the homegrown produce.
We thought long and hard about what to name the farm. We wanted a name that captured the emotion and feeling we got in this space. It was sheer bliss, and so we called it Aanandaa.

The Aananda story is exemplary of how the desire of many city dwellers like myself who want to live a natural life can be turned into reality if one plans ahead well with patience and dedication. Nine or 10 years of perseverence is what it took to bring life to barren land at Aananda. I'm sure the love that was put into this dream project by the amazing family of Manisha ji, had a significant part in its success. Much love to Aananda family and all the beautiful rescued and adopted animals that live there!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I really enjoyed the visit to Aanandaa. It was a new experience for me to see a "Food Forest" and the surprising thing was the sheer variety of plants that were grown together. The talk by Maneesha was also very well laid out and gave a nice overview of how to reclaim a barren land and convert it into a lively ecosystem. Not having any farming background in the family, this was a great insight into the feasibility of a project like this. A day well spent!

It was heartwarming to know how the whole farm is a family led project also greatly involving the kids. What a delight it might be to grow up having a permaculture farm as a constant backdrop.
It is inspiring to see such a project initiating a dialogue not just on farming/locally grown food but also bigger themes of consumerism & our modern lifestyles far removed from nature. Great to see people from Chandigarh do this :)

This farm gave me hope for my future and i am motivated now to start my own permaculture farm and adopt this lifestyle. Permaculture and veganism is the future.

Aanandaa is not just not-inhabitable, but also an example that living heavens can be restored on deserted lands. If you are a Permaculture Enthusiast, or atleast critical of the use of chemical fertilizers etc. then I must say that Aanandaa is a must visit. If not, then I would say that leave all your work for a day or two, and give a visit to Aanandaa, I bet that this will be worth it. If you think that it is farmer's who should rather visit the farm, (Having myself visited the farm) I will say that this is more for those enjoying all the comforts/luxuries of life, without retrospecting the destruction caused by every single of their actions and thinking of what exactly are they leaving for their future generations. Money can't buy a LIFE OF REAL CONNECT with oneself and the nature. Aanandaa teaches us how to lead to a life of real connect, irrespective of who we are: a Billionaire, a millionaire or anyone. It will definitely be an eye opener, and beyond everything a great learning and fun experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had come across Aananda farms through a Youtube video while researching about permaculture. Their journey seemed very intriguing and inspiring at the same time. So I made it a point to visit the place next time I was in Chandigarh.
And I am glad to say that the farm totally met if not exceeded my expectations. Aananda was my first experience at actually visiting a farm and understanding the processes and natural systems behind permaculture. The farm manager, Keshoram ji was very patient in answering all my queries and guiding me around the farm. Their commitment to the right practices instills a hope in me that with enough perseverance and vision, any layman can take on this journey!
I would definitely recommend people who are interested in living a sustainable lifestyle to visit the place once.
