β β β β β Amazing experience with Sandip Nagare - Agnipankha! Got beautiful shots of flamingos! Drive time from pune - approx 2 hrs if you start early morning. I started at 5.30 am and reached at 7.30 am. In case you want to reach a night before and stay, they have very nice clean rooms and good food. For bird watching, you need to walk from this place towards boats which is about 5 min walk. Charges are Rs. 800 per boat and ride time is 1 hr. One boat can carry 5 people. Don't forget to carry professional camera as flamingos are at least 100-150 ft away and you need good camera to capture them! The closer you go, they fly away! It's very nice experience! There are many other birds as well! You can also buy bird guide books and t-shirts with bird prints etc. Highly recommend this place!

β β β β β It's a situated in a small village on the banks of ujjani backwaters. Owner and crew were both knowledgeable and helpful. They charge 800 βΉ (Feb 2018) per boat and take only one family per boat for the long ride, which I liked.
We were able to spot couple of flamingos, grey herons, sea gulls, storks and couple of other birds. It's was fun but it's not a day long tour. After the hour long boat ride either early morning or at sunset there is nothing to do so plan points of interests accordingly.
We left Pune at 6:30 am and we're done with the ride around 11 am.
There are only 2-3 boat operators, one of which is agnipankh. Remember to call and ask about bird sightings before planning to leave.
Season is around Nov to April which peaks in Feb. Due to certain env conditions it's not always reliable hence call first.

β β β β β Be prepared with quality Binoculars, Photographer's paradise. Carry enough water to drink.
Best time for the visit is early morning first ferry by boat at 6.30
Evening rides are also interesting, but the number of Flamingos is better early morning.
Atleast a dozen of species of birds can be spotted.

β β β β β Have been visiting Bhigwan from 2003. Initial years there was no boat. Then sometime in 2008 or so the first boat arrangement was offered by Sandip. Over the years Sandip has grown and created a wonderful team. He has ensured not only he himself, but his team has the required knowledge to give visitors a great experience. Sandip offers accommodation in his extended house along with food. He has printed a book of his photos of all the birds one can see. Pictures carry simple description. I would highly recommend that you buy the book before the ride.Very simple folks offering great experience for bird watching. Boats are equipped with life jackets also. Sandip can also offer binoculars on rent. Last two years that I have visited have been phenomenal experiences.

β β β β β Don't go by this person .It's just boat ride after so far travel. The person accompanied (boat driver) did not had any knowledge on any birds. He was just hurrying that let's go. Bird watching is patience business.... We came back earlier than all the boats which started before. Really disappointed ?

β β β β β Well organized boat trip by Sandeep, stay and food is available.
Advice take an early morning boat ride or a evening trip, afternoons are hot. Private boat ride is the best as you get a view of the birds on a closer view.
Flamingos are shy birds so the boat can't get too close, take a good binoculars or a good camera for the trip.
Other birds are a good watch too.
Take water, something to eat (don't feed the birds) cap/scarf is the best to protect from the sun.

β β β β β If you like to see and explore new birds, this a great place to go. The host (Sandip Nagare) is polite and would go out of the way to provide best possible service. His knowledge about birds and their habitat is tremendous. I would recommend to go for water safari as well as land safari. Please spare minimum 1 day to include both safaris.

β β β β β A boating and birding experience awaits you here.
With expert guides and trained eyes, you'll not miss much.
You'll find boarding and lodging as well. Home cooked food and safari too is an option here.
Friendly local folks make it a top choice. Busy at all times, sometimes you may find the place lacking in service and attention.
However, you'll not be disappointed.
Pictures taken are from the backwaters.
