Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan said that organic farming is an age-old tradition of the country. Organic farming has been practiced by farmers since olden days.
The Governor said after inaugurating ‘National Organic Agricultural Products Exhibition’ – an exhibition on organic agricultural products at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Complex (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada.
Harichandan said that in an effort to increase agriculture production, natural and organic farming was replaced by chemical fertilizers and pesticides, leading to pollution and environmental disasters.
Organic farming was the way forward to protect the environment and safeguard biodiversity and expressed his happiness that farmers in Andhra Pradesh are adopting a chemical-free approach with the concept of Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) in a big way, he added.
Farmers from across the country set up 103 stalls showcasing their organic-based products at the venue as part of the 3rd South India Organic Farmers Summit organised by the State-based Gau-Adharita Prakruthi Vyavasayadarula Cooperative Society. The Governor visited the exhibition stalls and interacted with the farmers, inquiring about the products sold by the vendors.
