A beautiful anomaly of the Asian and Western architectural art amidst the predominance of Islamic architecture in Bhopal, Shaukat Mahal is one of the most frequented tourist places in Bhopal. Gracing the entrance of the famous Chowk area, the building, erected in Sikander Begum's reign, also exhibits a unique blend of Post Renaissance and Gothic styles, along with intricate carvings which adorn its glorious face. Shaukat Mahal is towered by the grand Sadar Manzil, which is believed to have served as the hall of public audience, back in the era of kings. Timings: The palace is open to visitors for 24 hours every day. Entry Fee: There is no entry fee for visitors. Location: Shaukat Mahal, Sultania Rd, Nakkar Khana, Peer Gate Area, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

distance of 4 km from Bhopal Junction, Shaukat Mahal is a historical structure located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Situated at the entrance to the Chowk area, it is one of the most unique architectural marvels of Bhopal, and among the top places to visit in Bhopal. Shaukat Mahal was constructed in the 1830s as a wedding gift for Sikander Jehan Begum, the first full-fledged female ruler of Bhopal. It is an integral part of the famous royal quadrangle of Bhopal around the Iqbal Maidan, earlier known as Khirniwala Maidan. Architecturally it is a bit of an oddity compared to other buildings in the heart of Bhopal, the building has many western elements combining both Post Renaissance and Gothic styles. This is due to the design being attributed to the Bourbons of Bhopal, widely considered to be descendants of renowned French kings. Built with a mix of Indian-Islamic and European Styles, the roof of the building is adorned with a series of complicated triangular-shaped arches and the exteriors have beautiful patterns, showing artistic brilliance. Shaukat Mahal is towered by the grand Sadar Manzil, which is believed to have served as the hall of public audience, back in the era of kings. Surrounded by lush green gardens on all sides, the red-colored hall has been built in a grandiose and has an ostentatious appearance. Timings: 7 AM - 6 PM, Closed on Fridays Entry: Free

It is a residential location now, once used to be an abode for city's royals. Historically significant but now in need of critical restoration. Not open for public visits but still a beautiful architectural landmark.

It is not worthwhile to visit this Mahal. It may be historical, but the location has been lost, and it is home of many people.  It is not a place to visit, and you will be disappointed if you do. Instead, there are two MAhals nearby, one of which is under renovation, and the other is GOUHAR MAHAL. Its infrastructure has been dismantled and is no longer maintained by anyone. It feels more like a home than a Mahal or an old house. I was very disappointed to put this on my list of places to visit. As a result, it is not necessary to pay a visit.

Very old....inside some people live now and it is all in ruins now.... however the architecture is very beautiful....it is adjacent to sadar Mahal/hameem Mahal. Nothing to see inside...we can only admire the architecture.

Very poorly maintained historical Palace by the government of Madhya pradesh. I think the government of MP is not giving a little focus on the condition of Historical palaces the well known Shaukat mahal is a live Example. Once a beautiful and huge heritage building is in the worst condition now you can't even get Inside of the Shaukat Mahal due to it's worst condition. There is grass all over the building, the building looks like a haunted place of b grade bollywood horror movies. Very poor and bad side of Madhya Pradesh Government can be seen here so sad to look at the Heritage Shaukat Mahal in such a awful condition.
