About Alzheimer's & Related Disorders Society Of India
Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) was established in 1992 by late Dr. Jacob Roy Kuriakose along with few likeminded individuals. Based in a small village in Kerala, Dr. Roy realised that India did not have the required infrastructure or care facilities when his father was diagnosed with dementia. With the support of his peer groups, Dr. Roy established the first care centre in Kunnamkulam, Kerala. Currently, ARDSI is present in 24 cities and assists families having a member living with dementia, care for people with dementia, train medical and health professionals, students and carers. ARDSI also campaigns to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia
Since inception, ARDSI has been actively engaged with National and State Governments to bring in place a National Policy for Dementia. To provide data and evidence to support our policy advocacy efforts, ARDSI also does its own research that helped publish the Dementia India Report in the year 2010 and Dementia India Strategy 2018.
In addition, ARDSI ensures up-to-date developments and knowledge on dementia in India through its annual conferences, popular among the medical fraternity of India, researchers, carers, social workers, students and those living with dementia with their families in India and abroad.
