★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very old age stepwell in Ahmedabad. Must see.
According to Sanskrit and Persian inscriptions in this stepwell, it was built in V.S. 1779/AH, (AD 1723) by Raghunathdas.
Sparsely ornamented, it is notable for it's L shaped plan and the bracing arches which have different shapes at the two stories and in the kuta(pavilion tower) before the well shaft.
Raghunathdas was the diwan to Haidar Quli Khan, governer of Gujarat during the declining period of Mughal Rule.
