What Is Ayurveda
Ayurveda is an ancient science for healthy life for approximately 6000 years BC. This system of medicine was started by Lord Dhanvantri. The Ayurveda is the Upaveda of Athervaveda. The aim of the Ayurvedic treatment is to enhance proper digestion, helps to remove the free radicals and toxins from the body, enhance mental & physical functions besides this it nourishes & rejuvenates mind and body naturally. Ayurveda is not only a system of medicine but also represents a way of healthy living. Ayurveda is formed by the combination of two words viz. 'Ayur' means life and 'veda' means knowledge. Thus, Ayurveda means the knowledge of life. According to ancient Indian thought, The Universe is composed of five basic elements, the Panchmahabhootas, namely:- Prithvi(earth), Jal(water), Agni (Fire), Vayu(air) and Akash (ether). As the human is similarly constituted with these five elements, there is a fundamental harmony between universe and man. Ayurveda believes in the theory of tridosha: Vata, Pitta & Kapha. Vata is a combination of two elements of the universe namely air and ether, Pitta is an amalgam of fire and earth and Kapha is the combination of ether and water. According to this theory, the Tridosha remain in a balanced state when the human body is in a healthy state. Disequilibrium of these doshas cause diseases. According to Ayurveda, true medicine is one which cures the disease without any side effect & without causing any other disease in the body. According to Ayurveda, health, is a natural state of all the three aspects of the human beings i.e. body, mind & soul (Indriya, Mana & Aatma) in complete harmony, when the natural state comes in contact with unhappiness it causes diseases.
