★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Arulmigu Shree Maha Ganesar Alayam is the oldest Ganesh temple in Dharavi built in 1913 by Southindian. Managed by " B.S.I.A.S SANGH" The BSIAS Sangh was set up by migrants from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu who fled the plague and caste-ism of that era and come to Mumbai where they set up Leather tanneries. The temple an important landmark in Dharavi, originally consisted of small shrine under the peepul tree. The Ganesha idol was brought from Varanasi in 1913 and installed in this spot.The building around it was only constructed in 1939 and the rest which consist of a Navagraha used for wedding and other ceremonial occasion. CENTURION : THE OLDEST GANESH TEMPLE IN DHARAVI IS CELEBRATED ITS 100 YEARS OF GANESH FESTIVAL ON 2012.
