★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Valmiki Mandir is a Dalit community Temple, not a Hindu temple. Mahatma Gandhi and Khan Abdul Gaffar khan stayed here. Gandhi stayed here and taught children for an year. The room where he stated is preserved as it is. Gandhi wanted to feel the discrimination faced by the Dalit community which faced untouchability from upper caste Hindus. There used to be a settlement earlier around the temple but when new Delhi was expanding the land was acquired people shifted away but the temple stands. I had taken two French journalists there as they were doing a story on 150 years of Gandhi.
