★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of the many coperative sugar factories in Maharashtra. Though the factory is supposed to have a cooperative management structure where decisions are made by consent of shareholders, the reality is on the contrary. The management structure is frail in the sense that the decisions are manipulated and framed to benefit the political interests of a single family. It’s more of a monopoly and less of cooperation. The factory has it’s own educational society, dairy and number of other subsidiaries. Once at their peak, the standards across its subsidiaries are deteriorating at an alarming rate and the sole reason for their downfall is the indulgence of the senior employees in filling their coffers with money that belong to hard working farmers. It is at a stage where it is taking more from society than it is giving in return. It’s been a decade since the road maintenance work of neighbouring regions have been done. The factory is now in fact hindering the pace of development of the region. They are likely to diminish into void in the near future unless the situation is handled in a pragmatic manner.
The place stinks because of the residue smell and one may get used to it over time. What makes it worse is the spell of bad karma. The place is simply inhabitable where one feels suffocated by tyranny of few blood sucking individuals over thousands of farmers and you can see it on their faces.
