On the south side of the lake is Bhujiyo Kotho, or Bhujiyo Bastion, once an arsenal and still an impressive structure with a panoramic view on all sides, and therefore an excellent place from which to look over the lake. Look for a caretaker to guide you around the safer parts, since some parts were damaged in the 2001 earthquake.

Near the bastion, is a curious old well in which the water can be brought up by blowing into a small hole in the floor.

This building had an underground path which lead to Bhuj during the times of war. On land 258 kms were covered in just 54 kms underground. Over the years, the underground path was restricted by the government as it then became unsafe. The building was also destroyed because of the 2001 earthquake. This is now a site of heritage and is still preserved. The beauty of this building lies in its preservation. Even though only a few ruins remain it is considered to be the pride of Jamnagar. We see that the heritage of any vernacular building does not lie in it’s exterior beauty or the marble with which it is made but it lies in the people and the authenticity of its existence. It is time to protect and enhance such fragile but rich heritage.

I have heard many haunted stories of this place. One of my friend lives right behind this place. It is believed that this was a rescue tunnel for the king which lead to bhuj. Thus it is named as bhujio kotho. If you visit a street falling right behind it, then small kids would be playing cricket. Maybe they haven’t heard those haunted stories yet!?

Construction of the Lakhota Fort, Darbargarh Palace and the Bhujio Kotho is in the typical Indian architecture style of that period. While the Fort and Darbargarh Palace are aesthetically designed and constructed, Bhujio Kotho is purely functional. Bhujio Kotho is a huge circular five storey structure on the bank of the Lakhota Lake. The first floor had guns housed in it pointing in different directions through small windows. On the upper floor one can see the remnants of a huge water tank used to supply water to those inside the fort and the Kotho. From the top one has a panoramic view of Jamnagar city and the areas surrounding it. It is clear the Kotho was a military lookout post to warn against invaders and let the rulers take appropriate measures well in time. The King occupied the lower portions while the topmost floor had lookouts posted. The guns could fire in all directions to repel invaders and thus prevent an invasion and capture. Unique to the Bhujio Kotho is the well from which water gushes out when you blow into a hole in the floor. This feature still amazes and astounds visitors. There is also a large collection of armory items that gives us an idea of the guns, swords and other weapons of war used in those days. Bhujio Kotho suffered extensive damage during the earthquake of 2001 and visitors are not allowed inside or on the upper floors. Still, you can venture there and admire the military strategies and the importance of this key structure for the defense of the city. Jamnagar is about 300 KM from Ahmadabad and is accessible by road, rail and air. Bhujio Kotho is near Khambhaliya Gate and you can visit it in day time.

A protected monument built in 1852 by Maharaja Jam Ranmalji 2 as a draught relief structure. This was a 7 storeyed structure of 34 mt height utilizing mainly for armory storage and a watch tower in the past. It was greatly damaged by an earthquake in 2001, since than it is abandon and neglected. Right now it is being restored by JMC in coordination with State Archeology Department and in few years it will be again open to public. The visitors can experience the impact of bygone era's skyscraper with different vistas such as views of the city and Ranmal Lake nearby from the top. The entire structure is made of lime masonry and traditional construction method of "Otho Dongo" technic.
