हिन्दुओं ने मंदिर बनाकर कब से पूजा और प्रार्थना करना शुरू किया। आखिर हिन्दू मंदिर निर्माण की शुरुआत कब हुई और क्यों? मंदिर की प्राचीनता के प्रमाण क्या हैं? प्राचीनकाल में हिन्दू मंदिर खगोलीय स्थान को ध्यान में रखकर एक विशेष स्थान पर बनाए गए थे।
हिंदू मंदिर की वास्तु रचना
हिन्दू मंदिर की रचना लगभग 10 हजार वर्ष पूर्व हुई थी। उस काल में वैदिक ऋषि जंगल के अपने आश्रमों में ध्यान, प्रार्थना और यज्ञ करते थे। हालांकि लोकजीवन में मंदिरों का महत्व उतना नहीं था जितना आत्मचिंतन, मनन और शास्त्रार्थ का था। फिर भी आम जनता शिव और पार्वती के अलावा नगर, ग्राम और स्थान के देवी-देवताओं की प्रार्थना करते थे।
देश में सबसे प्राचीन शक्तिपीठों और ज्योतिर्लिंगों को माना जाता है। प्राचीनकाल में यक्ष, नाग, शिव, दुर्गा, भैरव, इंद्र और विष्णु की पूजा और प्रार्थना का प्रचलन था। रामायण काल में मंदिर होते थे इसके प्रमाण हैं। राम का काल आज से 7 हजार 200 वर्ष पूर्व था अर्थात 5114 ईस्वी पूर्व।
