★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a small area but the resident monk Sukumar Maharaj is running quite a few impressive social outreach programs within their limited means that the Government should be ashamed of.
Set in a economically backward area with mostly Muslim population, this center has become a beacon of hope for the local people, who come here for food, vocational course, children's tuition, widow's subsistence etc apart from spiritual guidance.
The ethos of Ramakrishna Math is different from other religious institutions, that they don't impose their religious ideologies on anyone. To pray or not to pray to the deities there is entirely optional. The focus lies instead on the social work that they are doing. It is more of an NGO run by selfless monks, than a religious institute with a holier than thou attitude.
Really impressed, I am currently working on fund raising for them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A beautiful math of Ramakrishna Mission. Serene, peaceful and conducive to spiritual pursuits. It is slowly shedding it's rural character.An erudite Swamiji heads it. The math has many social activities like free coaching and training in electrical, plumbing etc. Plus free medical consultancy of Homeopath and Alloepath doctors.Located a little away from the upscale Rajarhat, approach road is bad. Otherwise the math is worth visiting atleast to listen to very high standard discourses.
