★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Calcutta Deaf & Dumb School being the Second oldest Institution for hearing impaired students in India is a sponsored Institution of Govt. of West Bengal in the Mass Education Extn. Department. Since the year of establishment in 1893 this Institution is engaged in imparting academic education among the Hearing Impaired Boys and Girls in the state of West Bengal and also of the neighbouring states. The Institution also provides prevocational Training for the students for their rehabilitation in normal life during their schooling as per suitability of their skill. In a word it can be said that this Institution has an important role to build up a better society educating such handicapped children and make their parents happy.
Since 2005 the school has become a high school with the recognition of W.B.B.S.E and the students of the school are appearing in the Madhyamik Examination since the year 2008 and the result of the students is very impressive in consideration to their physical deficiency. There are no failed candidates during last 10 years. The extra curriculum activities of the students are also very impressive. They use to participate in sports and games in their field arranged in several places throughout the country. The school has awarded “Mother Teresa International Award” in the year 2014.
The Calcutta Deaf & Dumb School has its own building on about 5 Bighas of land including a playground within the heart of the city. The school authority is now thinking for the up-gradation of academic standard and wants to set up Higher Secondary School.
