Very good and calm place. One can experience beautiful scenes and fresh air of mountains here. Small place, no hustle bustle of population.... Nice place to visit for nature lovers..

You can get the permit for this FRH at the Forest Barrier at Kalsi. Costs somewhere like 600 per person. This place is best in terms of location. You wouldn't get a better, more scenic or peaceful place to stay in the whole of Chakrata. Having said that, however, this FRH needs SERIOUS renovation and repairs. Broken windows, damp, heavy and practically useless blankets and broken bathroom fittings are just some aspects. You risk being frozen to death under these circumstances. The forest deptt. must make this place worth the money by undertaking some maintenance.

Difficult to get a booking, but a very serene and calm place. If in Chakrata, this is the best place to stay. Carry your own food and stuff. It has that old world charm. You can just sit in the verandah and read a book the whole day.

You can easily ditch Mussoorie for a trip to this place. Located at almost the same distance from Delhi, Chakrata is a heaven for those who are looking to spend a few quiet days in the lap of mountains. Once a summer retreat for the British, this serene hill station offers some of the most stunning panoramic views.

6 of us went chakrata to shoot for a music video. We stayed near tiger fall the first day. Next morning we saw weather changing, so we went to chakrata again and kept moving up the hills crossing the forest check post.Heavy Snowfall started just after reaching the check post. But we kept moving in our bikes and went up to 20kms. We were then stuck, no where to go. We were even not able to walk properly. But then we started walking with our bikes hand handled. We thought we were going to die when we were stuck. It took more than 3 hrs to reach the check post again. We were then told there was no rooms available for staying. We told the army officers to at least get one room for us or we will freeze in that icy night. He took us here. It was a very nice experience but then we felt something here too. Heard someone walking upstairs and running in the roofs. At one moment the bon fire in the fireplace inside the room went out. We were not able to light it. We were tired already and it started burning again suddenly. It was one of my life's best experience. I googled this guest house and found it was haunted by a British officer. Then we woke up again in the morning and this was the fine view that relaxed out mind.

Need to look into tourist safety during snow fall. The people who book a room there. Need proper safe moment area. For entering and exiting area. But the surroundings is beautiful.

The route branches off from the main road ahead of Chakrata. Its a forest road/dirt track thereonwards. Its tough at most places with a few daunting climbs.Take only a true SUV or a taxi up there.Sedans and small cars will certainly have their bottom damaged and may not make it up there at all. Dec end to Apr 1st week the road to the rest house may be blocked due to snow/hardened melted snow. But the scenery is the best in India! Simply awesome!! Word of despair and caution to the government-- the huge amount of logging nowadays will destroy wildlife and render the area bare in five years if not stopped. The forest rest house at the end of the trail at Deoban was made in 1953 and lies at 9000feet plus altitude. The road to the rest house branches off from the forest road, with the left going to the RH and the left going further ahead into a place called Aathmeel and further to Khadamba, which is a logging/lumber station. It is still a rarely visited ,unspoiled paradise, waiting to be spoiled by dirty tourists, greedy loggers and corrupt government ! The above review was for Forest Rest House at Deoban, and not Chakrata!

Lovely aesthetics to the property. Old British time buildings, but some in ruin. Decent view but not very panoramic. Trees hide most of the sunset and Himalayas.
