There are around 60 students in a class which is relatively small as compared to other departments. The one-on-one interaction that you had at school with your teacher still remains.
The department HOD (former and current) and senior faculties are extremely helpful. Unlike many other senior faculties at MANIT, they actually care about the interests of students.
The department has maintained decent placements, even though it started barely 10 years ago.
Fewer number of classes as compared to other departments. You are left with more time for yourself, and can easily prepare for future prospects such as GATE,CAT,GRE etc.
It has better infrastructure than any other departments. The labs have continuously improved over the past few years.
Cons :
There are no professors in the Chemical Department. The seniormost faculty that we have are Assistant Professors. It heavily lowers the standard of education, way lower than what one would expect from an NIT.
There are almost no permanent faculty. Most of the courses are under Contract Faculties who are, to put it in the most polite way, extremely rude, some even non-qualified and excessively egoistic.
Skewed relative grading system: Although MANIT has a relative grading system, the department follows a strange method for evaluating grades. No one gets a perfect 10 in any of the subjects, even if the score is as high as 97/98. This diminishes the entire point of Relative grading.
There’s no library in the department. Even the college library is in a state of extreme disarray.
