CRY's work on the issue of Child Rights is well renowned, but too experience it first hand through my internship at CRY was an enriching experience, that I'll never forget. CRY strives to make a difference in the lives and underprivileged children, and it was a privilege to have worked with them in doing that.

Cry is doing a great job for the little children. The transparency in their dealings is appreciable. It has successfully been able to bring a smile to many children over these years. Wish them all the best for future

I did a one month internship with CRY, Kolkata last November, and it was one of the worst work experiences of my life. To begin with, they have an abundance of interns considering the publicity they create, so if you wish to intern for an NGO, I would recommend choosing a smaller group, since those are the places in genuine need of manpower and you will get a good amount of work to do. On a personal level, I was harassed by my mentors at CRY as I decided to speak up for myself. Ms. Dilshaad Hossain handles internships and favors only those who agree to every demand that she has. She was very rude to the interns who couldn’t speak Bengali and sometimes only asked us if we were able to raise any money for CRY. We were never given any quality work, and our skills were not put to any use. Her partiality and dislike towards me was so bad that the my co-interns also complained against her. I was also threatened that they would withhold my certificate and remove me from the internship if I raised any queries. CRY also forced me and my co-interns to raise a huge amount of money for them in the name of “fundraising” on Ketto, which on being asked about its purpose, they had no rigid initiatives they were going to use the money for. Some of the interns we also asked to work on weekends and do delivery work in the name of volunteering, for which there was no monetary reimbursement either. CRY keeps more than 30% of their funds to themselves which is a lot for an NGO, and they also hold dance practices and pizza parties in their workplace. I raised an amount of Rs 56,000 for CRY and was not provided with any certificate of appreciation. Even getting a completion certificate was made troublesome for me, that I had to reach out to the HR as Ms. Dilshaad had dance practice for CRY’s 40th anniversary celebration. All of this was being brushed under the carpet by the Head of the Kolkata office until I had to take it further. Please choose an NGO that does genuine work and not just mints money, even if it means working for a small one. It will soothe your values, and not be a traumatizing experience like mine.

I did my internship with CRY under Dilshaad Hossain ma'am and it was amazing experience. Through this internship, I got so many opportunities to explore. I did office work by preparing case studies related to the legal aspects of the workings of CRY and field work as well through PAG(Public Action Group) in which I got a chance to teach many unprivileged children. Also, I was assigned in CRY's KATHA MODULE where I taught children in a classroom setting for developing their reading and writing capabality. For getting this much experience, I'm really thankful to Dilshaad ma'am and the way she guided throughout this internship, it was great to work and I never felt boredom and pressure for doing any work of this internship.

It was a really great experience for me interning at CRY. For the first couple of weeks we worked on the Child Protection Policy and POCSO and made presentations on it for the organization. There are Public Action Group visits to slums every weekend for teaching the underprivileged children. For the last couple of weeks we conducted Child Sexual Abuse awareness in different schools across Kolkata and it was a great experience interacting with children on such a sensitive issue. We also conducted a health camp in collaboration with Woodlands Hospital. It was overall an enriching experience.
