About Daljit Kaur

Daljit Kaur is a real and perfect example of adversity guiding a strong-willed person towards empowerment. She chose to do LL.B. after 10 years of her marriage when she found her in-laws family suffering in the hands of land grabbers and the entire system. The system- which instead of becoming helpful was weaving a web, making the situation more perplexed and complicated and doing macabre on their head. It was the time when she and her family faced rough weathers, for not just the (more than a century old) ancestral property but also the grace of the family, their livelihood, future of the children, her own dignity means everything was on stake. She was facing tough situation but with the grace of Almighty and her own grit with coincidental set of values, she succeeded to come out of affronting series of challenges and life threatening events and proved herself tougher than any challenge or situation. When her in-law's old landlord family was on roads and trying to get justice by knocking every possible door but it was quite difficult despite putting all efforts along with financial savings due to lengthy, expensive and complicated legal system. Threat to life was major concern along with threat to property. She analyzed the situation and decided to take bridle in her own hands to win legal battles because at the time of marriage whatever was satisfactory in the house of in-laws in the eyes of her parents become a battlefield for her as she had to go through a marathon of various litigation, over sinister land grabbing efforts, extreme economic crisis, ending up with `an soft target, object attractive for any fellow, to exploit in many ways.Dozens of c o u r t c a ses b e c a m e b o n e o f contention. Land sharks were fully supported by powerful politicians, Local Police and administrative machinery whose influence was a china wall, to obstruct any head-way. The family comprising, aging father–in-law, retired from Indian Revenue Services, husband-semiliterate, aspiring to give away valuable land for peanuts, but keen to enjoy silly life, and two siblings- daughter and son.All the savings were spent on legal fights. No money was for fuel in four wheelers, then for two wheelers, education and brought up of children. She walked kilometers with minor children and bags of files everyday. Relatives taunted them that now you are not landlords but lords only because all the lands have gone. Moreover her husband told her to leave the battle, on refusal heescaped from the scene by leaving her alone with minor children on an isolated farm house, where nobody was in surroundings upto kilometers, with no resources to give fight to enemies and to save the life and liberty. Her husband was not coming for weeks to home. Enemies were getting information that very soon everything be in their favor as father-in this-law was unable to do anything due to criminal case and husband is involved in many vices. She use to put clothes of her husband outside in the yard of farm house to get dried after wash just to give eyewash to opposites that her husband is in house and enemies from roadside could get impression that his family is joint to give them fight in this male dominating society. Her husband declared that'it is better to live on begging instead of leading such a life'. Further he told her that'we do not have any interest in this land, from our side everything finished. Do anything if you are interested'. As she strongly believes that'it is better to die with dignity instead of living as graceless and looser'.  It is considered in Punjab that Great Maharaja Ranjit Singh, to whom ATAK (it's name symbolises -which never stop) River gave the pass by cooling down its flow due to his unshakeable and firm determination during a war and he stops foreign invaders to enter into India forever.Sr Hari Singh Nalwa, whose name was recognized up to Afghanistan and other countries for his bravery. Lord Krishna, who is considered Incarnation of God, warrior and foresighted, who remained life time on the side of PANDAV's. Even then Pandavswere not able to live their life in comforts. They chose to fight and win the MAHABHARAT, which was the battle of grace because without grace life is like a body without life. Because they were bound to do KARMA's for their grace, dignity and rights. On the one side husband was not supporting and on the other sideher own lawyers were unsensational towards her legal requirements, problems and solutions. One day in the Supreme Court of India when she visited her lawyer and asked to put certain important documents on the file but her lawyer told her very roughly and carelessly that your case has been dismissed since long way back. She was stunned and failed to understand how to act and how to come out of this situation. On that she came to know why legal process is called untiring struggle for justice. She felt that they have lost their identity along with everything. That was the turning point of her saga. She decided to do LL.B. while coming back from Delhi to bring back her family in the mainstream. Instead of cribbing about the situation or giving up without a fight, she decided to seek justice through the legal route and opted to be a lawyer herself to win her cases. After few years She got her lands back. She not only won the cases but many hearts too. This victory shaped her entire life's focus and she decided to fight the legal battles for the under-privileged ones. She had realized how helpless a person feels without justice and so she invested her passion to empower those who have been betrayed by people or situation. It is the reason people call her advocate by profession and social activist by passion. A gruesome experience of litigation, exposure to related practices, plight of justice and seeing lives and properties of many at stake, she felt impaled to jump into the role of crusader for awareness, fight for fair deal and amelioration of lot litigants. Thus she decided to galvanize her Legal knowledge, skills and abilities to help others especially to farmers and women. She feels legal education is the big weapon to come out of many problems.
