Shree Mahatama Gandhi started the salt satyagraha from this place. This bridge still witnesses the great historic movement.

Dandi bridge, where the historic salt march began, has been a crumbling edifice ever since our freedom. Today, after almost eight decades of the Mahatma having left the Ashram, there is a renewed effort to revive the bridge. The bridge will now be an access to the river front. The silent-zone project at the Ashram has mostly relied on creating public spaces that are quiet, peaceful and are accessible by all. Creation of an Ashram plaza with dense trees and cobbled paths, canopies with seating arrangements and a possible cafeteria is also being incorporated in the plans. "A special promenade will link Dandi bridge to the river front. Keeping in mind the aim of the Ashram, every piece of architecture will symbolise peace, tranquillity and encourage introspection," CEPT university professor Utpal Sharma. In a recent survey, authorities found that visitors had been complaining that the Ashram doesnot display adequate information about the Mahatma. Lack of infrastructure to cater to specific needs of visitors and tourists was another common complain.

It's a beautiful and historical place. People can not go on this bridge people can see this bridge from new bridge beside this old bridge. It's very near to sabarmati ashram, If you go to visit sabarmati ashram must visit this place. Walking distance just of 2 min. from sabarmati ashram.

The place from Gandhiji began his Salt March, Dandi Bridge is 3 minute walk from Gandhi Ashram and at walkable distance Visitors can observe the bridge from adjusent concrete bridge as of now, it was not open during my visit though people said can access this bridge to the river front. Can see good effort from authorities to preserve the bridge with all support structure around. expect too much about this historic place other than the preserved Bridge.

Although it's a historical place, from where Mahatma Gandhi started the salt Satyagrah. I would recommend it as a one time visit place (You can even skip it if you are in hurry).
