Awesome and one of the eldest temple of CHANDANNAGAR

It is near the bhadreswar hour. Here jagadhatri puja is celebrated with great pomp and d grandeur

Very ancient Durga Temple. Most probably 350 years plus old. This old temple was decorated with Terracotta work. The then Maharaja of Pandua had set up its NaatMandir. It is heard that the 'Austodhatu Durga Murti' (Eight metalled Durga Idol) was left over here by some decoits or robbers and later it was started to be worshipped by a aged women named 'Kundu Buri'. Once upon a time It was considered as a famous and very glorious Durga Puja of Chandannagar. But last 25- 30 years it has been loosing its name, fame and historical existance rapidly. Today the site has become a ghost place. Big grasses and shrubs have covered the courtyard of the temple. The NaatMandir and the main temple dome were damaged severely due to the uncontrollable growth of banyan plants on top. Massive cracks are found here & there. The Terracotta woks have almost been erased due to unscientific and cheap renovation. It is true that some maintenance works had been done by some devotees individually. This Mandir is supervised and run by a board of Trustees where 3 families were involved. But only one family is now all in all and proclaims as the guardian of this estate. They doesn't bother or have no responsibility for proper maintenance of this heritage place. They are only to grab its financial benefits and advantage of historical value. They always look for help or donation from other devotees. Whereas the property & precious ornaments of this temple are huge and they are just sucking its creme but doing nothing for its development. Every year Durga Puja is performed here as usual in traditional method but in very ordinarily and underratedly. Once upon a time thousands of of devotees came here but nowadays only few of them come. Devotees are so reluctant to come here now due to receiving rude and hostile behavior from the so called guardian of this historical site. Once A Primary school under Govt. of WB was run in this temple premises and at that time the premises was cleaned and maintained by the school authority. But 10 years ago the school has been shifted from here and since then the entire Temple yard was lying under traumatic condition .
