★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Department of Mathematics was founded in 1898 as a part of the Central Hindu College at Kamachha much before the establishment of the Banaras Hindu University in 1916. Subsequently in 1917, Department of Mathematics along with the Central Hindu College was transferred to the Banaras Hindu University. The Department had the privilege of having had eminent scholars like Prof. V.V.Narlikar, Prof.Ganesh Prasad, Prof.R.Vaidyanath Swamy and Prof.R.S.Mishra on its faculty. The teachers of the Department have been receiving national and international recognition and financial support for their high quality research. The Department has made notable research contributions in the areas of Functional Analysis, Geometry, Relativity, Mathematical Programming, Topology, Fluid Mechanics and Fuzzy Mathematics. Two Research journals "Progress of Mathematics" and "Proceeding of the Mathematical Society,BHU" are regularly published.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Department of Mathematical Sciences began its journey as a section to assist engineering departments of the institute which, in the true sense, pioneered engineering education in the Indian Nation. It soon acquired the status of a full-fledged department in 1985.Its importance lies in the fact that it caters to the needs of the undergraduate as well as post-graduate students of the Institute. In addition, the department runs its own 5 year Integrated Dual Degree course in Mathematics & Computing. The department aims to give emphasis to research in analysis, algebra, topology, mathematical transforms etc. Be it fluid dynamics, gas dynamics, biomechanics, fracture mechanics, digital image processing, generalised thermo-elasticity, heat and mass transfer, cryptology and many more fields of applied nature, department’s contribution is enormous in terms of numerous research papers published in reputed international journals over the past few decades. Computing is the glamour of the department. It annexes several dimensions in terms of new and growing areas of research and further facilitates simulation of mathematical models constructed for interdisciplinary areas.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our Math department is very good but Our New HOD is not so good as we want he is very angry man and always superimpose his logics without listen anyones argument.
He always increases complexity of any simple student's problem. He thinks only shouting & roaring is the solution of any problem.
Another side our 'Real Analysis' Teacher H. C. Sir is very good & polite man I never saw such a simple & knowledgeble person. He has ability to solve ur any problem either mathematics or other than mathematics?
