★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I attended DU physics department from 1965 to 1970 and received BSc (Honors) and MSc degrees. The best physics department not only in India but in Asia. Now I practice Radiation Oncology Physics in USA since 1974. I have great memories of my time at DU and Hansraj College

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The department is good but I would like to point out two main problems (based on my experience of 1st sem, I will mainly focus on cons) -
1) Classroom is stuffed with around 150 students, in one hour teacher can't even look individually at that many faces. Lectures are good but maybe because of the class size they seem like mere dictation. Exams are tough (which is somewhat a good thing compared to the BSc course of DU) but sometimes they don't seem coherent with the lectures, maybe that is because there are very few lectures given in a semester or the teachers that set the exam are not the same as those giving lectures.
On the brighter side, most teachers are good and will treat you like an adult, you can freely attend any class. But if a subject is taught by two teachers with contrasting quality of teaching then one class will be fully packed with students sitting even on the floor and the other empty. Environment around the campus is really good for studies especially with CSL library nearby.
2) The course needs to be changed in accordance with the changing time, it is neither research oriented nor job oriented. There is no point in sticking to the age old system of rote learning (it's the problem with whole DU not just this place). There is not enough emphasis given to projects, serious practical work, dissertations and not even simply reading of scientific papers.
Please guide students on future possibilities and do something to provide opportunities (something similar to placement cell could help or atleast provide some guidance in summer/winter projects or internships).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In graduation, it does not matter much even if you donot attend classes properly but here you need to listen carefully to each and every word of teacher. Here they would give you ER for your mistakes. I know students who had cleared their NET-JRF but had ER in the subjects. You need to be disciplined. They ask tough questions thus you have good scope for learning. Faculty is very intelligent and have good knowledge thus they point out each and every mistake. Teachers inspire you and act as knowledge radiator.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Department of Physics and astrophysics is a very good place to understand the physics and physical concept.
All the courses are available here . Total of students are distributed in 4 batches in m.Sc previous and in M.Sc final they choose course. Each course or experimental modules has something 40 students, which is their specialisation course.
This is something 100 teacher faculty.
I enjoy this department.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Department is very good. Whether you talk about study or scenic view.. Greenery is everywhere in the campus... Faculty members are also very good. I'm find it best.. There coordination in online classes and when it comes to offline online blended mode they are doing there job best.. I'm not lucky that i can spent much time here.. Due to corona we already lost 1 year in online mode and our interactions with professor is also least.. We're hoping that this will not stay long so that what we missed other's will not.....
