★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Garh Rajputana camps is on the way from Jaisalmer towards Sam sand dunes, perfectly away from the crowd and traffic. We stayed here for one day, checked in around 3 PM, had our own vehicle. I must stay the camp management planned the activities perfectly.
We were taken to Sam sand dunes around 4:30 PM for camel safari. After safari we're given sufficient time to sit in the sand dunes and enjoy the sunset. Sitting on sand dunes and watching the sun going down slowly, with many native artists coming and performing for tourists (tip generously to these peoples, as this is what they are earning their living and any small amount will help them), it was an amazing moment.
After sunset we're taken back to our camp via van and on arrival into the camp we're greeted with traditional welcome ceremony. Then tea and snacks were served in the central area. Soon traditional Rajasthani cultural program was started, we sat around the bone-fire (as it really got chilly by night) and snacks were served to all of the guests. It all was beautifully organized. After this we went for the dinner, though some people stayed back to enjoy the cultural performances. Dinner was very good, with traditional Rajasthani dishes like gatte ki sabzi, dal bati, lal maas (must try) and many more. Overall a very great desert camping experience, we designed activities throughout the stay.
Rooms were very clean, provided with all modern amenities. Sleep quality was great.
And at last did i forgot to mention that all of the above activities were part of our room stay. In addition to it hotel staff also organizes for desert jeep safari, but didn't go for it. Will definitely come here again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Garh Rajputana camps Situated on Sam Road in Sam village, some 40 kilometers away from Jaisalmer city, we checked into this tranquil desert camp around 7.00PM and were very warmly greeted by decked-up Rajasthani women with the traditional aarti (an Indian ritual with lamps) and tilak (a colored spot or marking especially on the forehead). Coupled with this traditional welcome at the entrance, there were some folk musicians playing lilting Rajasthani music, which resonated in our ears for a long time. We were guided to our tented accommodation where we were to spend two days amidst beautiful desert surroundings.
Even as we checked in and freshened up, we were invited to the folk dance and music (held regularly in the evenings) along with mouth-watering snacks. Besides tea and coffee, there were drinks – hard and soft – on offer, also. After an hour and a half of folk music and dance, it was time for dinner which, too, was sumptuously laid out.
Since it is a sprawling campus, with 36 spaced-out tents, there is a lot of walking in the desert sand, which could be a tad difficult. But for the elderly, like my mother in her late eighties, upon request, the staff gladly arranged a pick up and drop from the tent (room) to the restaurant and back, in their jeeps which are usually used for desert safari.
While I write this piece, this tourist season is nearing its end. Since most of the camps in the desert wind up by the second or third week of July due to extreme heat, all the tents were fully occupied to make the most of the season. Despite this, the resort manager Mr. Mahendra and his team ensured to the hilt that even the smallest of request from any guest was taken care of.
The best part of this camp is that there are no segregated departments (like room service, housekeeping, etc.) and every person in the staff complies with any request of the guest.
The package includes breakfast, dinner and one camel or camel-cart safari, besides the dune-bashing adventure in the jeep. The desert safari starts around 3.30PM and lasts till the sun hits the horizon lending the desert sands a warm golden glow. The jeep picks up the guests from the doorstep and drives on into the desert for a thrilling dune-bashing adventure. Please bear in mind that since the dune-bashing ride is mainly for the adventure-seekers, it may not suit senior citizens and those with heart and spine ailments.
While at this camp, it is strongly recommended to wake up early to catch the beautiful sunrise and the chirping of the birds, from the campus itself. Just feeling the cool early morning sand beneath your bare feet is extremely relaxing (unless of course, it is severe winter).
Many praises to the management and the staff of Garh Rajputana Camps for the wonderful hospitality and the care and attention showered on us, or for that matter, on every guest, young or old.
To top their impeccable service, the staff has also kept a suggestion book in the restaurant and they ensure that the guest writes a comment/suggestion, which speaks volumes about the detailed attention that each guest gets!!
