★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Serene place amidst grameen atmosphere. Historical importance with connection to Kalinga dynasty. About 500 years old with a fort nearby in its ruins. Nearest bus stop is Vadutola (Railway station - Junglemahal) plus about 5km accessible by a fantastic road. Autos and Totos available. Must visit for 2-3 hours to experience a cool, calm and serene place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A historical place this is. Although ruins are there and newly but temples are present now, still it bears the Flavour of ancient rural Bengal. Named as Karnagarh, this is a place with some historical importance. Temple remain closed from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. Many people visit this place and offer their prayer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ David J. McCutchion mentions the Dandesvara temple as having a pirha larger than the main temple, measuring 13’ 6” square + 25’ square, built of laterite having stucco decoration.
The 60’ high Anadilinga Dandesvara and the Devi Bhagabati Mahamaya temples are the main attractions at Karnagarh. Both these temples were built by Karna Keshari of the Keshari/ Somavamsi dynasty of Odisha in the 10th century. A big fair is held on the Poush Sankranti day (mid-January).
“Both temples have been painted pink and the magic of black stone is lost. However, the surrounding walls are still in black and the ambience magical.”
Both the Dandesvara and Mahamaya temples are state protected monuments.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Being developed as a potential spot for devotees (deity said to respond to devoted prayers) and tourists. The place opens at 7 am every morning, closes at 1:30 pm afternoon and again opens at 4 pm and closes at 7 pm. The illumination is worth seeing after dark and hence recommended to reach the place in the afternoon and see the illuminated complex post dusk (see photos in evening).
