★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place has a significant importance to all the Buddhist. Dr Ambedkar himself installed the statue of Buddha, which he bought from Nepal. It was installed on December 25, 1954, much before he embraced Buddhism for himself and his people.
For me, I used to visit Dhamma Bhumi when I was in schools. At that time I was not aware of the relevance. But just knew it was a scared place for us. Yesterday, I visited here atleast 25 years later if I remember correctly.
The difference between then and now is just the number of people visiting and the number of vendors doing business. What is not changed are the people and their excitement.
At that time, we used to take the local train and the walk towards the Vihar. The crowd used to be not over 200 mtr of the radius of the Vihar. Yesterday the parking was about a kilometre far. Wanted my grandfather to visit this place. It was fun. And more over after establishing myself in Dhamma, I could truly know the significance of this place and feel proud of my being.
