★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Elphinstone College has an enviable location, which is also historically significant. The building of the College with its gothic architecture, has been classified as a grade 1 Heritage structure. It has recently been restored by the Kala Ghoda Association and has regained its luminous look. It stands out like a pearl as night falls. The College was awarded the Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage Conservation, by UNESCO in 2004. The institution is known for its open access to students from all strata of the society. This includes various communities, income groups and interests. It is one of the few colleges in Mumbai with an extensive hostel facility for both boys and girls. Located within a walking range from the college and overlooking the marine Drive, the hostel is certainly among the unique strengths of the college.

Degree or "senior" college was affiliated to University of Mumbai till 2019.And, it was later made a constituent college of Dr. Homi Bhabha State University. This was a newly formed state owned cluster university.
The Junior college of the institution is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board It provides education at a higher secondary or high school level.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This college is a great example of 'Naam bade aur Darshan chhote'. Poor classrooms, fans are not working properly, poor washroom facilities, canteen food is average, equipments in labs are of poor quality, Staffs are not supportive.

Only exterior is good but interior is poor.
Some freedom fighters were studied here.
Poor classrooms without fan.
Seating arrangement is also bad.
No proper washroom facility.
Not a good place to arrange competitive exams.
