This institute was set up among the founding leaders, the main were the Ali Brothers, i.e. Moulana Mohammad Ali Jouharand Moulana Shaukat Ali.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the nationalist leader of the Indian National Congress, was one of its main initial patrons.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) is one of the nine faculties of the Jamia Millia Islamia university in New Delhi. The FFA is situated near Tikona Park where is also located the Jamia Millia Islamia Metro Station (Magenta Line of DMRC). The FFA is accessible from the university's gate no. 18. It is situated next to the Jamia Schools and the Procter Office including JMI DTC Depot.
Faculty of Fine Arts consists of six departments which are as following:
1. Art History & Art Appreciation,
2. Art Education,
3. Applied Art,
4. Graphic Art,
5. Painting and
6. Sculpture.
The FFA conducts visual arts courses at Bachelor, Master's and PhD level (Art History) and is among one of the few art institutions throughout India with Mater's and Research courses in Art History. Also, it provides certificate and diploma classes in various streams of visual arts.
