This is the a barrage consisting 109 gate on the river Ganges in the district of Murshidabad. A Road cum Rail bridge is there on the barrage. Condition of road is no quite well. It require a little maintenance. Bangladesh border are 16 km apart from here. U can get the chance to see the barrage's beauty while travelling towards or while coming from north Bengal.

Farrakka Barrage Township is a census town in Farakka CD Block in Jangipur subdivision of Murshidabad district in the state of West Bengal, India. This is the most beautiful barrage I've ever seen. If you come to Farrakka, then the Farrakka Barrage will come to a halt ...

Natural beauty is great. If anyone want to select as tourist spot for one day. It's OK for that. Proper food is not available. The place is yet to develop. Transportation system is moderate, banking and ATM service is not good. You have to cross a long distance for ATM system. Mobile network is not also properly available. The most beautiful things about this place is the holly Ganga. Atmosphere is very good and all you can see is green. The place is secured with police as it is a broader area of India-Bangladesh.

It's a bridge that connect North Bengal and South Bengal. The bridge is oldest but awesome. Farakka Barrage is a barrage across the Ganges River, located in Murshidabad district in the Indian state of West Bengal, roughly 16.5 kilometres (10.3 mi) from the border with Bangladesh near Chapai Nawabganj District. Farakka Barrage Township is located in Farakka (community development block) in Murshidabad district. Construction was started in 1961 and completed in 1975 at a cost of ₹156.49 crore (US$22 million). Operations began on 21 April 1975. The barrage is about 2,240 metres (7,350 ft) long. The Feeder Canal (Farakka) from the barrage to the Bhagirathi-Hooghly River is about 25 miles (40 km) long. The barrage was constructed by Hindustan Construction Company. Out of 109 gates, 108 are over the river and the 109th one over the low-lying land in Malda, as a precaution. The Barrage serves water to the Farakka Super Thermal Power Station. There are also sixty small canals which can divert some water to other destinations for drinking purposes etc.

It is the longest bridge in West Bengal, total length is almost 2240 metres. The bridge was opened in 1975, after a long constructy period (14 years). Today it is only connection from North Bengal to South Bengal, both Rail and Road. Due to rapidly growing vehicles pressure, it was in a horrible condition with potholes everywhere making it practically impossible to navigate on. But the bridge has been extensively repaired in the recent past.alsothere is hope that besides this a new bridge construction is going on.when that complete & open the jam issue will be hopefully solved.???

It's one of the longest barrage with 109 gates. It is built on the river ganga. The view from the barrage is absolutely stunning. The barrage is accessible by car, train ,buses and by walking too. Though the vehicles don't stop anywhere on the barrage. They just pass by. One has to cross the barrage to go to North Bengal.
