It's a Navigational Lock Gate which is in construction stage and will be a part of Jal Marg Vikash Project water transport system.

Infrastructure giant Larsen & turbo has won a Rs 359 crore contract to build a new navigational barrage at Farakka inWest Bengal under the Jal marg vikas project. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has awarded the work for the construction of a new state of the art navigation Lock which is being implemented on National Waterway-1 (River Ganga). A navigational lock is a device used for raising and lowering ships/vessels between stretches of water of different levels on river and canal waterways. "With the existing lock it takes about 2 hours or more for a vessel to pass upstream or downstream of Farakka. With the new lock it will take only 38 minutes for a vessel to pass through. If movement of a vessel is followed by movement of another vessel in the reverse direction, the operating time will be 23 minutes only," a release from IWAI said. The existing lock gate at Farakka which has been operational since 1978, is old and inefficient. Since the modernisation of the existing lock will entail closing down the lock gate for to 8-10 months, it has been decided to first build a new navigational lock and subsequently the modernisation of the existing lock would be undertaken. The new lock is proposed with modern state of the art features like electro hydraulic operations of Mitre Gates and Radial Gates on filling culverts and remote control operations of all the gates from a central control room. The Jal Marg Vikas Project is being implemented with technical and financial assistance of the World Bank at an estimated cost of Rs. 5369 crore for plying of vessels with capacity of 1500-2,000 tons. Phase-I of the project covers the Haldia-Varanasi stretch which includes development of fairway, multi-modal terminals, strengthening of river navigation system, conservancy works, modern River Information System (RIS), Digital Global Positioning System (DGPS), night navigation facilities and modern methods of channel marking.

Nice view The Site is located at Farakka in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, on the Feeder Canal of Farakka Barrage. A barrage was constructed across river Ganga at Farakka to divert the water from Ganga to Bhagirathi through a feeder canal. There is a significant difference in water level of the upstream pond of the Barrage and feeder canal, depending upon the flow in river Ganga and the feeder canal. To negotiate this difference, a navigation lock is required. The navigable route through the main Ganga River upstream to the River Bhagirathi downstream is facilitated by a navigation lock at Farakka. The Feeder Canal of Farakka Barrage and the navigation lock becomes the link between the main Ganga and Bhagirathi. The existing lock has become dysfunctional and a new lock is constructed in parallel to the existing lock. The navigational lock is part of The Jal Marg Vikas (National Waterway-1) project, financed by the Worldbank. Larsen and Toubro Engineering and Construction Company (LNTECC) have signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement with Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for the New Navigational Lock.

It is difficult to rate this place because it's a Government property and it's a protected place so, I didn't click any photographs there rather I clicked a bird's photo there. This lock gate ment to block direct flows of water and boats to either sides. They have huge space to built any further project there.
