 Yanam is a Union Territory located on the banks of Godavari. It is geographically linked with the Pondicherry Puducherry (Old Name Pondicherry) in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. The uniqueness for Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam is that they were ruled by the French for 2 centuries and were liberated in 1954 and merged into independent India. But when the British left in 1947, it was only for those who read history that the French ruled some of these independent Indian states for 7 years.
