ਕਿਸੇ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੇ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਸੇ ਸੂਬੇ ਦਾ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਦੇ ਆਰਟੀਕਲ 165 ਤਹਿਤ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨਕ ਅਹੁਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਵੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਦੇ ਆਰਟੀਕਲ 165 ਅਤੇ 177 ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨ ਦੇ ਆਰਟੀਕਲ 165 ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਹਰੇਕ ਸੂਬੇ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਪਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਨਿਯਕਤ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਜੋ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਦਾ ਜੱਜ ਬਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਰਾਜਪਾਲ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਅਹੁਦਾ ਸੰਭਾਲਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਨਖ਼ਾਹ ਵੀ ਰਾਜਪਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ
ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਸੂਬਾ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ-ਸਮੇਂ 'ਤੇ ਰਾਜਪਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸੌਂਪੇ ਜਾਂ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਰਟੀਕਲ 177 ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਹਰੇਕ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ (ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਪਰੀਸ਼ਦ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੂਬਿਆਂ) ਦੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਬੋਲਣ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਣ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਨਾਮਜ਼ਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੋਲਣ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਣ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਵੋਟ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
* Who is the Advocate General? *
A state's Advocate General means a senior law official in a state.
The Advocate General of a state is appointed under Article 165 of the Indian Constitution and is a constitutional post.
The functions and powers of the Advocate General also fall under Articles 165 and 177 of the Indian Constitution.
Simply put, AG is the most senior public prosecutor in the state.
