Recently I got a GSI report on a Diamond, what I found surprising that they mostly mentioned the details of a natural gemstone like, R.I., SG, Inclusions, etc. But to buy a diamond it's not enough to know whether it's a natural or synthetic stone because quality of a diamond depends on it's 4'C s but in GSI report nowhere they mentioned it's Cut, Color or Clarity. So it's impossible to judge a diamond price based on GSI Test report. For GSI, I think in future it will be helpful for a customer if they start mentioning 4C's on a Diamond Report. Otherwise it's good for the seller but not so good for the end customer.

Geological Survey of India (GSI), an attached office of Ministry of Mines, Govt of India is one of the world's oldest geological surveys with more than one hundred and sixty-five years of legacy is a team of highly motivated, thorough professional scientists working in vivid aspects of Earth System Sciences. GSI being premier organization in the study of geological processes is custodian of huge database generated since 1851 in the Indian subcontinent and has been sharing it's expertise with geologists of many other countries by intensively training them in field work techniques, processing of field data in laboratories and through highly advanced software. In the Mission framework the entire activities of GSI were divided into five missions, namely, 1.Mission I: For baseline geoscientific data generation 2.Mission II: For the development and augmentation of national natural resources 3.Mission III: For geoinformatics and data dissemination 4.Mission IV: For fundamental and multi-disciplinary geosciences, and 5.Mission V: For training and capacity building of geoscientists of GSI as well as geoscientists of other national and international organisations.

This post is related to Toposheet sale for ICSE class X geography. Many people like me have misconception that from Jawaharlal Nehru Road's Geological Survey office it can be bought. But actually You have to buy (Rs118/- per map) map from Survey of India office which is located at Wood Street ,gate no 15, near Park Street Police station.

Located beside the Indian Museum, it was Established in 1851. It is an autonomous body under Central Govt and they play a vital role in exploration of minerals and mines of India. But, this was not the premise from where it had all began. GSI began in the year 1851 with the sole aim to locate coal for railways, although survey work had begun as early as 1821, it was only in 1851 with the arrival of Thomas Oldham in Calcutta on 5th March that GSI was formally established at 1, Hastings Street (now Kiran Shankar Roy Street), near the Calcutta High Court. There is a stone plaque which stands in memory of a journey of this very prominent establishment of Kolkata. This was placed on the 125th anniversary of GSI.

The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at GSI, CHQ, Kolkata with full enthusiasm and zeal. The DG, GSI, Dr. Dinesh Gupta hoested the National Flag and addressed the gathering. He appealed to all the officers and staffs of GSI to come together to make GSI the best geoscience organization in the world. He also emphasized upon the successful implementation of VAQ Model in GSI. A small cultural program was also organised. Source- GSI Facebook page
