★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Easily Goa's oldest and arguably most prominent environmental group. They've been active from the 1980s. Taking on issues like sand mining (if I recall right), forestry, coastal hotel overbuilding and law-breaking, and much more. Goa Foundation also played a crucial role in giving Goa it's first and extremely comprehensive environmental report (called 'Fish, Curry, Rice', not to be mistaken for the traditional meal or a cookbook!) In recent years, they have been focussing on green litigation in the courts. Because of their work, a number of influential quarters in Goa don't like them, and will promote whisper campaigns. Founded by the resettled-from-Bombay Dr Claude Alvares and his wife, the green lawyer, Norma Alvares.
