Government Medical College, Amritsar is one of the oldest medical colleges in the country and has always played a preeminent role in providing medical care to people. The college has followed established traditions and has embraced modern innovations with equal ease.
The college has an admirable track record of being a centre of excellence and innovative medical teaching and research practices. The college alumni have made their presence felt all over the country and play a prominent role in medical colleges and institutes in different states. The spirit of discovery and entrepreneurship has also led many of our alumni to steer health systems in India and other countries.
We are affiliated with the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences and admit 250 MBBS students. We also offer speciality degrees (MD/MS) in all disciplines. Nursing, paramedical and vocational courses provide the much-needed requirements for a skilled workforce.
The campus houses most of the basic, paraclinical and clinical departments, including the 1100 bedded Guru Nanak Dev Hospital Complex. State-of-the-art diagnostic facilities and research facilities form a part of the complex.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good college with a Poor hospital...Lot of political interference. Great students, Poor faculty doctors except few.
Very difficult for unreserved candidate to secure admission here. Poor infrastructure is a great hindrance in the functioning of the hospital. Govt should invest money on hygiene and sanitation of the hospital. Clean drinking water, repaired windows, garbage disposal, functioning coolers, clean bathrooms.
As for college, students are the main asset...students are bright and cordial. Restrictions are very few in this college which makes for a very healthy atmosphere. I hope this college gets updated and regain its lost glory when once it was among the best colleges of India
