अयोध्या से करीब 5 किलोमीटर पश्चिम-दक्षिण फैजाबाद शहर में देवकाली माता का मन्दिर है। देवी भागवत में बड़ी देवकाली का वर्णन है, जिन्हें भगवान श्रीराम की कुलदेवी कहा गया है। पौराणिक मान्यता के अनुसार, मां देवकाली मंदिर को भगवान श्रीरामचन्द्र के पूर्वज महाराज रघु ने बनवाया था। जनश्रुति के मुताबिक, जब श्री रामचन्द्र जी का जन्म हुआ था, उस समय राम की मां कौशल्या पूरे परिवार के साथ बड़ी देवकाली मां के दर्शन करने आई थीं। तभी से इस मंदिर से जुड़ी परंपरा चली आ रही है कि जब भी किसी के घर में बच्चा होता है तो उसे परिवार के साथ मां बड़ी देवकाली के दर्शन को लाया जाता है। मां के दर्शन के बाद ही बालक के मांगलिक कार्यों की शुरुआत होती है।

Since then the tradition related to this temple is going on that whenever there is a child in someone's house, he is brought along with the family to the darshan of Mother Badi Devkali. The auspicious work of the child begins only after the sight of the mother.
