★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The majority of people have three choices for buying petrol - Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum. There are other companies(Essar,Reliance etc.) also but since their reach is very limited, we will not talk about them.
Petrol is very complex substance. Unlike Diesel, it's not a direct product of distillation. Basically, its a mixture of Naphtha, Reformate, Catalytic cracked naphtha etc. It is blended in the refinery so each batch is different from the previous batch. Companies have to fulfill a set of parameters, set by oil ministry, before sending their product into the market. So you need not worry about quality.
It's not necessary that petrol which you are buying from Indian Oil petrol pump is coming out of Indian Oil's refinery. That's so because none of the three companies have refineries all over India. Thus they buy(not technically) petrol (also diesel,Kerosene) from nearest depot.
