β β β β β Went there for polio vaccine.
Didn't like the staff that much.
They kept telling me different answers when I asked about the opening hours.
When I called, they said something else, on reaching there, 2 people gave me 2 different answers, which were completely different from what I got on call.
Google maps gets the navigation slightly wrong.
The geo location of the place is correct, but Google still figure outs the wrong way.
It's off by only the last few hundred metres.
My suggestion is to follow Google till the end, and then ask someone for directions.
This is an old and well known hospital, people will know it.
There is a Xerox centre nearby which also does lamination. Get your polio certificate laminated as it's quite flimsy.
On polio vaccine, they'll give you the certificate the next day, so be prepared to go there twice. Obviously you can collect it a little late too.
Saturdays are half working days, and sundays are off. So keep that in mind.
The vaccine is free of cost.
I was traveling to Kenya, so polio vaccine was a must. Tell them about your travel plans. They'll ask for a copy of passport which they'll return the next day along with the vaccine certificate.
Adults do need a booster dose, even if they have taken the vaccine in childhood.
The vaccine has to be taken a certain number of days before entering the country (Kenya in my case).
So plan in advance.
Also, since I had to take both polio and yellow fever vaccines for Kenya, there's something you have to remember.
Either take both within 24 hours of each other, else there should be a gap of 20 days.
Yellow fever is available at Sassoon on Monday and Tuesday only, and kalavati offers polio vaccine on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Also, you'll have to take prior appointments at Sassoon, they have limited vaccines, and people are a lot who want to take. So plan well. Gather enough information. Email embassies, they usually reply quickly. Visit health department websites of all the countries you'll be visiting. Visit who website for a list of countries affected by yellow fever.
If you don't take the vaccine, you may be quarantined when returning from the country where the disease is widespread. This means that they'll keep you at the airport for few days. In my case I was traveling from India to Kenya, then to us and then back to India. Kenya will not ask for these certificates. US and India may, for the fear of you bringing the disease along with you.
If you only have a layover and don't plan to go outside the airport, then vaccines may be optional, I am not sure. Ask around. I just had a layover but still took the vaccines.
The yellow fever vaccines now has lifetime validity, rather than 10 years it used to be.
