Must Visit Place. Totally loved it. “Khira-Chora” in Odia means ‘Stealer of Milk’ and “Gopinatha” means the ‘Divine Consort of Gopis.’ The reference is to child Krishna’s love for milk and milk products.

Khirachora Gopinatha Temple (Odia: କ୍ଷୀରଚୋରା ଗୋପୀନାଥ ମନ୍ଦିର) is in Remuna, Odisha, India. The name "Remuna" is from the word "Ramaniya" which means very good-looking. "Khirachora" in Odia means Stealer of Milk and Gopinatha means the Divine Consort of Gopis. The reference is to child Krishna's love for milk and milk products. Lord Gopinatha, flanked by Sri Govinda and Sri Madana Mohana, is made of black stone. Sri Gopinatha stands in bas-relief. Govinda and Madana Mohana, who were brought from Vrindavana in about 1938 by a devotee named "Chaitanya Dasa Babaji", are standing freely. It is said that Sri Rama carved Gopinatha with His arrow and that Sita worshiped this deity in Chitrakuta.

Khirachora Gopinath (literally Milk Thief Lord of Gopis) is an ancient temple (built ~1300 AD)dedicated to Lord Krishna located in the town of Remuna near Balasore. It is said that Lord Krishna had stolen a pot of Khira for his devotee Madhavananda Puri, an incident that occurred about 500 years ago. Hence the name. The special prasad of this temple is Gopinath Kheeri (payasam) also called as Amrita-Keli, given in clay vessels. It is available in 3 denominations- ₹25, ₹40, ₹70. It is very auspicious to Vaishnavas and ISKCON devotees. There is a samadhi of Rasikananda Prabhu (thought to be incarnation of Aniruddha, grandson of Sri Krishna. Covid protocols are strictly being followed. People have to stand in queue with proper distancing and wait for their turn to enter the temple premises.

Best place to know the importance of deity and why it should be preserved. Here the deity is so old that you can't imagine and also the story behind the name khirachora and story of madhvendra puri. Best part is also to relish the very transcendental khira that one drop will liberate you?
