The sky looks so beautiful with full of kites!!! The people from all over the world come here to fly kites and enjoy!!! This is really very good place!!!! ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Every year, January 14 the International Kite Festival ‘Uttarayan’ in Gujarat, India takes stage.
A 2 day public holiday with celebrations taking place in many cities while people competing with their Kites. The major event is however held in Ahmedabad along the Sambarmati Riverfront.
In total about 8-10 million people participate in this spectacular event which claims that 42 countries participated in 2012. The other participating nations bring many different types, styles and techniques of Kites.
The festival is held regularly since 1989 but seems to have a 5000 year history when it was a sport and entertainment for the Royals. The origin of the Kite festival celebrates the end of winter, rise of the sun into the warmer weather and upcoming harvesting time. For the Hindu farmer an auspicious date and more a Harvest festival while it can be also considered a Spring festival.
