Showcasing an impressive collection of weaponry, artifacts, photographs and information from its very inception as one of the country's oldest police force in 1704 till present times also covering the turbulent period of freedom struggle, this repository of knowledge is located in a heritage building which once belonged to Raja Ram Mohan Roy close to APC road and Sukea Street Xing. Photography is prohibited inside what is undoubtedly one of the best maintained museums of our city.

One time home of Raja Rammohan Roy. Good place to visit. One of a kind meuseum, depicting the journey of Kolkata Police through 1670 to present day. Entry free. PHOTOGRAPHY restricted. Contains various arms, guns, ammunitions and the description of the working of Kolkata Police is shown as per case study. It also contains the declassified files of Netaji which were released on 2015. Though these files are not kept in a way wherein the visitors could read them properly . A bit more publicity of the place required. A worthy place for visit if you are in the area.

Whether you have only a few minutes or an hour or two, enjoy a delightful visit to the Kolkata Police Museum. Occupying 2,000 square feet, the Museum reflects the rich tradition and history of policing in our city. The Museum seeks to collect, preserve and interpret objects related to the history of Kolkata Police. Our exhibit includes various items seized during the freedom struggle of the country. The museum is open to the general public Tuesday to Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the museum is FREE. The museum is more than just a display of historical artefacts, however. Indeed, it could be described as a β€˜three-in-one’ combination of museum, library, and cafeteria, spread across its two floors, open to all members of the public, on all days of the year. An annual library membership costs you Rs 800, should you be interested. One other point of interest, particularly for Bengalis, is the building itself. For those who are unaware of this bit of our history, this was the house where the Bhawal Sannyasi, of β€˜Sannyasi Raja’ and β€˜Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ fame, frequently stayed in, while fighting his hugely controversial case in a Calcutta court, in the early part of the 20th century. In 1948, having changed ownership a number of times, the house finally became the residence of the Commissioner of Calcutta Police, and in 1972, it was converted into the headquarters of the Wireless Branch.

Free entry, very nice collection of pistols and guns of legendary freedom fighters of Bengal and India. The museum also tells us about the history of Police force in Kolkata, from the British period. Very intriguing collection. The people taking care of the museum (mostly police personnel) are also very well behaved and good.
