In 1998 Krishnath College became an affiliate of the University of Kalyani. Prior to this they were an affiliate to University of Calcutta. In July 2018 the murshidabad university bill, which was passed by the house will pave the way for setting up a state-aided university in Murshidabad by upgrading the existing Krishnath College. The college was established in 1853 by Maharani Swarnamoyee Devi. The college was named for her husband, Maharaja Krishnath Roy of Cossimbazar. In 1841, Maharaja Krishnath received his zamindary (a jurisdiction assigned to a zamindar) and had the dream of establishing an academic institution. Following her husband's death, Swarnamoyee gave as a gift both land and money, saving the college from financial crisis. Mr. Harrison became the first Principal of the college. The famous Indian Scholar and writer Brajendra Nath Sealdeveloped the infrastructure of the college.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ At first the school had no separate existence. It was part and parcel of the Krishnath College. Regular Classes were started from 21 November 1853. In 1855, the School was shifted to Mr. Verdon Monasagon’s two storyed house. In the year of 1857, the School was again shifted to Banjetia House of Maharani Swarnamoyee. When the Krishnath College Building was completed, the school was shifted in the eastern block of the college building. In 1887, Maharani Swarnamoyee undertook the administrative and financial control of the college as well as the school. In 1902, the name of the school was changed to Krishnath College school. On 9 August 1909, the foundation stone was laid by Hon’ble Sir Edward Norman Baker, the Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal. The school was shifted to its present imposing building, built with the help of Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandy. August 1911, the school was formally opened by Lord Fraser William Duke, the Officiating Governor of Bangal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A school with great heritage, magnificent alumni. Before the Government order for "first-come-first get" basis admission system, it only allowed the best students in town through the admission test to be part of the school. maintained a high academic prestige and level of teaching.
now-a-days,with the current policy, it's going downhill. Not a premiere institution anymore.
