Unknown to many, even those living in Mumbai, this temple is a 10 minute walk from Dockyard Rd (Harbour Line) in Mazgaon. The temple can be accessed by getting keys from the 2nd floor. The temple is on the 1st and 3rd floor. Interiors resembles with that of a chinese temple and walls adorned with calenders. A beautiful thing is that people write down their messages and wishes to God on paper and place it at the idol's feet hoping it shall be heard. Tranquility is the word that describes this place the best.

First of all its a task to find this Temple between the buildings in mazgaon. This temple is situated in regular resident building, only a red gate outside with a name in chinese is return in a small lane with cars parked around. You want anyone here we had gone in afternoon. On first floor the care taker stays who will open the temple for you on 2nd floor & ground floor. Visit once & see that India has a Chinese Temple too in Mumbai & another in Kolkata thats it.. Nowhere else.

I love the warmth of this place, I had done a story on this place too! People pray to Kwan Yin who is the goddess of mercy in this temple. Good vibes :)

The Kwan Kung Temple or Mazgaon Chinese Temple is a shrine in Mumbai that is dedicated to Kwan Kung, the Chinese god of protection and Kwan Yin, goddess of peace, mercy and wisdom. It's the only Chinese - Taoist temple in the city. This temple was built for and by the See Yup Koon community from China, who by profession were merchants, traders and sailors. In the opposite lane of the temple, you can find a building with typical 1950s design with the 'See Yup Koon' door sign. The temple transports you to that era, an era with wooden stairs, red chinese lanterns and antique electrical switches. You are welcomed with the fragrance of burning incense sticks, bright and beautiful symbols like the Yin-Yan and other Taoist symbols that adorn the temple. This place is frequented by spiritual healers who bring biscuits and chocolates as their offerings, which are later distributed as prasad among visitors. The population of the Chinese diaspora living in Mumbai started dwindling after the Indo-China War of 1962. Many Indian-Chinese people living in India were sent to Deoli Camps in Rajasthan. Most of them were deported to China, those who decided to stay were kept imprisoned for almost 2 years, while the war lasted for a month. They lost their property and were forced to relocate to a country that they never considered home. These were our people, our very own. They spoke Hindi, married other Indians, ate the same food as us but were considered traitors because they looked different. Currently, 4000 Indians of Chinese descent reside in Mumbai. This temple isn't easy to get find, many locals have no idea that it even exists. Please use Google Maps when you go here. I'll even upload pictures of the chawl where it is located.

One of the beautiful place. It's a hidden gem. I never thought there would be a Chinese temple in Mumbai. The care taker of this place is very humble and genuine. Do visit this place between 10am to 5 pm.

Didn't know about this place before.. Chinese people who are born and bought up in mumbai visit this place regularly. Went on the occasion of Chinese New Year, the temple is way too old and still maintained in good condition. Came across some people who were kind enough and very devoted, some spoke marathi/ hindi languages fluently.

Wish to see a Chinese temple in Mumbai? Here it is in one of the peaceful lanes of Mazgoan. Very few people know about it and hence it is less crowded. Once you enter the temple you feel the calm and peace inside and the place has a sense of pure bliss. The fragrance of incense sticks keeps the mood positive and beautiful Taoist symbols are seen across the temple. Coming here is such a pleasant experience and a must visit if you are in Mumbai. Place looks picturesque and also very welcoming. Fortunate that we have such a place in Mumbai!
