★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lakshmisole Ashram is dedicated to the life and work of Sri Sadhu Baba (real name unknown). He was invited here by few villagers from a hillside in India, over 150 years ago. He spoke in Bengali with an accent that suggested his mother tongue may have been Oriya.
It is said that the late Dr. BC Roy once examined him, and stated that sadhu baba must be over 200 years old. He is credited with several miracles including predictions that came to fruition years later. Revered not only at Lakhshmisole, but also by devotees of several neighboring villages, sadhu baba was the epitome of austerity and kindness.
On his last day , he called his followers, and told them that he would enter mahasamadhi during midday. Around 2 PM, he sat in his asana(pose) and shortly after, his soul left for its heavenly abode.
Even to this day, Sadhu Baba is widely worshipped for his divinity, and his ashram has been expanded and maintained, thanks to the generous donations from his followers, some of whom reside in other parts of India and even abroad. Sadhu Baba, even after nearly 80 years of his death, lives on in the heart of his devotees.
