Shoolini Mata Temple, Solan The Shoolini Mata Temple is dedicated to Shoolini Mata-an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The shrine is one of the prime attractions of Solan. It is also believed that the town of Solan was named after Shoolini Mata, who is the presiding deity of the temple. As per legends, the temple was once the abode of Shoolini Mata. The shrine attracts huge crowd during festival days, especially during the Shoolini fair(last weekend of June). The temple looks beautiful in the night when it is completely illuminated and is crowded on holidays and festivals. Other highlights of the fair are activities like dancing, singing and wrestling .The fair attracts traders, sweet sellers, general merchants and shopkeepers from the neighbouring town. Maa Shoolini Temple is located in the heart of Solan, Himachal Pradesh; It is a small temple located in a one way street and the approach from the main town center of Solan is little difficult due to several one way streets around it. Located at a distance of 2.2 km from the city centre, this holiest shrine creates a magical environment for both experience seekers and worship lovers. Mata Shoolini temple is an ancient and very famous temple of Solan city. Mata Shoolini is dedicated to an Incarnation of Maa Durga. It is believed that the name of Solan city is named after the name of Shoolini Devi. This temple is one of the most attractions of Solan city. Every day lots of devotees keep coming to get the blessing of Maa Shoolini Devi from different parts of Himachal, Punjab, and Haryana and around the country. The temple is very beautifully built and decorated. It looks so attractive at the time of night. Along with Shoolini maa, statues of Shirgul deity and Mali devta are also there in this temple. Mata Shoolini is considered to be the supreme superiority of the rulers of the Baghat Kingdom. Earlier Solan city was the capital of Baghat principality. The foundation of this principality was laid by King Bijli Dev. The area of the Baghat Kingdom which was formed with twelve Ghats was spread over 36 square miles. King Durga Singh was the last ruler of this princely state. According to legends, Mata Shoolini is one of the seven sisters. Other sisters are known as Hinglaj Devi, Jethi Jwala Ji, Lugasana Devi, Naina Devi and Tara Devi. Shoolini name is mentioned in Lalitha Sahasranamam as well. Maa Shoolini (Mahashakti), the form and formless, is the root of knowledge, wisdom, creation, preservation and annihilation. She is Shakti or power of Lord Shiva. Narasimha, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, couldn't control his rage after killing the unruly demon king Hiranyakashipu. He was becoming a threat to the entire universe. So, Lord Shiva, in order to pacify Narasimha, manifestated as Sharabha. Shoolini was also manifested with the blessing of Lord Shiva to tame Narasimha. Maa Shoolini is also popularly known as Shoolini Durga, Shivani, and Saloni, often being compared to Goddesses such as Durga and Parvati.She is also the Kula Devi (family deity), of Solan people There are 2 idols of Shoolini devi flanked by her sisters in Garbagruha. There are so many shops at the point of Mandir, where you can easily get the prasad in which dried fruits and red Bundi prasaad is most offering prasad to Shoolini Mata From the time of various rulers of the princely state, there is a fair of maa Shoolini Devi. According to Januruti, the rulers of the Baghat principality used to organize the fair for the happiness of their generosity. It is believed that due to Shoolini fair there is no outbreak of natural calamity or pandemic in the area, but happiness and prosperity arises in the area when the maa Shoolini is happy. And the tradition of this fair is still on. According to the tradition that has been practiced for years, Shobhayatra is taken out of the city as a Shoolini Devi’s dolly, whose city dwellers greetings. Performances of folk dance are organized by artists of the committee Members and youth club. Bhandara is imposed for three days at different places in the city. Bollywood playback singers are also invited for 3 days. wrestling and exhibitions are the main attraction of this fair. During the fair, the traditional Thodo dance of Solan is the center of attraction of all, It is believed that Shoolini maa comes to meet her sister for three days. This meeting is celebrated as a celebration. It is believed that if anyone chants this mantra of Shoolini Mata with the true heart, their every wish is fulfilled and gets the relief from any kind of body diseases by chanting this mantra. Their life became happy and prosperous by the grace of Shoolini Mata.

Beautiful temple in the middle of the city. Very pleasant temple, clean and accessible. It has good parking as well. Word of caution, the uphill/downhill slope is steep.
