गाँठौली एक गाँव का नाम है जो गोवर्धन की परिक्रमा में पड़ता है। इस गाँव का नाम श्रीराधाकृष्ण की लीला से जुड़ा है। होली खेलने के बाद युगल किशोर यहाँ सिंहासन पर बैठे थे। उसी बीच एक सखी ने छिपकर दोनों के वस्त्रों में गाँठ बाँध दी। जब श्रीराधामाधव सिंहासन से उठे तो उनको यह गाँठ दिखाई पड़ी। सखियाँ हँस दी और प्रिया प्रीतम शरमा गए। सखी ने फगुआ लेकर गाँठ खोल दी। इसलिए यह स्थान गाँठौली के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो गया।
यवनों के आतंक काल में श्रीनाथ जी कुछ दिन कुछ दिन गाँठौली में रहे थे। अष्टछाप कवि चतुर्भुज दास के पुत्र राघव दास जी को किशोर किशोरी की होली क्रीड़ा का साक्षात्कार होता था। उन्होंने गाँठौली की लीला वर्णन अपनी इस धमार में किया है, "ऐ जाय जहां हरि खेले गोपिन संगा...."। कुण्ड पर महाप्रभु बल्लभाचार्य जी की बैठक है।

Gantholi is the name of a village which falls in the orbit of Govardhan. The name of this village is associated with Sriradakrishna's Leela. After playing Holi, duets were sitting here on the throne. In the meantime, a Sakshi secretly tied knots in both the clothes. When Sriradhadhadhav arose from the throne, he saw this tumor. Sakshi laughs and Priya Pritam is shy Sakhi opened the knot with a pugaah. Hence this place became famous as Gantholi.
In the terror days of yawans, Srinath had been in Gantholi some days for some days. Raghav Das, son of Ashtchap Poet Chattrabhuja Das, was interviewed for the Holi Kishor Ki Koli. He has described the Leela story of Gantholi as "Aay jay where hari khele gopin sanga ....". There is a meeting of Mahaprabhu Ballabhacharya on the Kund.
