★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a monument as a memoir of the courage and dedication of the freedom fighters who fought with the Nizams to get independence for Hyderabad State.
Before 1948, Marathwada region of Maharashtra, Some part of Karnataka and Telangana were under the rule of Nizam of Hyderabad State. Although entire India rejoiced the independence after August 15, 1947; it was not until 1948 when finally people of Hyderabad State got the independence.
Nizam wished to have his separate state or either to join the Pakistan, despite all the residents were eager to join the Union of India. Hence started the clashes between citizens and the king. Nizam didn't tolerate the apposition but tried to forcefully suppress the movements of the people. This led to the foundation of a private armed association by the Nizam himself- The Razakars. This association started to threaten the people. Many villages were looted and burnt, many innocents killed and a lot of people suffered.
In spite of this the fight for independence continued. Finally, in September of 1948, the then home minister of India- Sardar Vallabhbhai called a police action by Government of India on Hyderabad State. This is only the time when Nizam finally surrendered and Hyderabad joined the Union of India, the date was September 17, 1948.
This day is celebrated as 'Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din' or just 'Marathwada Mukti Din'. This monument remembers us of this historic struggle of people for independence.
