★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you ask any random employee of M.N.Dastur & Co. regarding whether Alishan biryani is satisfying or not, you will probably meet the same fate as the person from the cult chlor mint ad, asking for reasons to eat the famed mint candy. Alishan, or 'kaua biryani' as we call it for its budget servings (a plate of chicken biryani with the quinessential egg in it will cost 75/- . Yes, you heard ot right), serves literally the best biryani in town in its budget. Do not go by the looks as the food will surely deceive you. Having munched on umpteen times, this place does not cease to amaze me for each and every next time. The flavour of the Calcutta biryani is preserved with justice here and the service is within 30 seconds. You have to eat with the plate held on your hand which, in an inhospitable summer afternoon might prove to be unbearable amid the hustle bustle of the office goers and perennial flow of kolkata crowd. But have my word for it, the taste will not disappoint you, especially will startle you with respect to the budget at the disposal.
Just one word of advice, be a little quick to get there,preferably by 1:30 pm to avoid the crowd flocking for the same purpose as you.
