★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1995 - Back then the Lonely Planet called it a great place for Butter Chicken. I settled in Panaji for a couple of years. New Punjab became my favorite restaurant in town for Butter Chicken. I'm glad to see it still delivers, what to me, is the best I've had anywhere.
On ambience, I see some critics think it needs a makeover.. There are many options in Panaji, if you want more chick or upscale interior. New Punjab, has something unique, you could call it an endangered species. I hope it will stay like this for future generations - to experience the old Panaji. New and old side by side. You don't cut down landmark trees, to make a parking lot. New Punjab represents something priceless, once lost, it's gone forever.
I hope the locals and the traveler, will value this authentic and legendary place, for what it is. And go somewhere else if it's not your thing. I've worked in many restaurants around the world. I've eaten in two star Michelin restaurants. One critic went to the lengths to order three different Biryani dishes. So this is not a signature dish, why would anyone, so willfully avoid the the dish the place is famous for. One star,
so at least this guest thought the Biryani stunk. He tested all three versions, mission accomplished.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Horrendous dining experience thanks to the cashier. We were unable to make a card payment since there was an issue with their machine. The cashier didn't have the basic manners to speak. When we asked him to lower his voice, he ABUSED us. A lot of other customers also shared the same experience with him. Looks like the cashier has come with a background of selling fish in the market previously (where such behaviour is normal) and landed at the restaurant as a cashier by mistake.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tried Biryani, Cheese Garlic Naan, Baby Corn starters (forgot the name) and Pepper Chicken. Average food. The starter were okay. Okay-ish ambience. Service was fast. The Biryani was a huge disappointment. We bought all three types Chicken, Mutton and Prawns.
Won't recommend to visit this place. Seating arrangement is nice. Layout inside is nice and rustic.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place serves good butter chicken and their chicken tandoori is a must try. Although the ambience is not to the mark but reasonably OK compared to the rates and quality of North Indian dishes served. Please do not try the sea food here as it is not their speciality.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The food is quite tasty. Rates are very affordable and their butter chicken is a must try for non vegetarians. As for the vegetarian folks, don't miss out on the chole masala. The quantity is excellent.A great place for casual dinners and small meet ups over lunch.Only, the ambience could have been improved.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A place with decent food at affordable price.
The star is missing for the ambiance. A bit dim but suits the bar atmosphere. But it's spacious.
Have seen few good men in this place who would surely appreciate good food.
The crowd here is usual and regular but doesn't ever give a feel of non-family way, which is the reason it's frequented by families as well.
I visit this place with friends usually for a quick one.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you love dhaba-like food in a restaurant setup, this is the spot. My current favorite place for some tasty yet economic meal. You can have a tummy-full meal for just 200 bucks and feel satisfied.
Their naan & Chicken Do Pyaza is a great combo. If you're in mood for Chinese, then try their Chicken Noodles or fried rice. Tastes just as yum.
Want a hack? Go there as a group. Order one gravy with a couple of naans. Look at your wallet smiling wide when you leave. :P
Very light on pockets and good, tasty food. That's definitely a win-win for me and every other student looking for a budget friendly place.
