Temple is situated on Mangalagiri hills roughly around 14 kms from Vijayawada. The lord here is offered with jaggery water or panakum, hence the name Panakala Narasimha Swamy. The lord here is believed to consume half the jaggery water offered to him no matter what the quantity is. There's a ticket you will need to purchase to make a offering of the jaggery water to the lord. Correction...you don't offer the jaggery water but the priest does and gives you a vessel filled with panakum which can be transferred to a bottle to carry it home. Right next to the main diety, you find steps that will lead you to the Godess Lakshmi temple. The entrance to the top of the hill closes at 6.30pm.

Mangalagiri means the holy hill. This Mangalagiri is also known as Bhimadri which is located about 13 km from Vijayawada. In this temple, Lord Vishnu worshipped as Panakala Narasimha Swamy. The mountain is in the form of elephant and temple is located in the elephant mouth This is the place one of 8 important Mahakshetrams in India. In Mangalagiri, 3 Narasimha Swamy temples are present such as one is Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Panakala Narasimha Swamy, and Gandala Narasimha Swamy. History of Mangalagiri temple: As per the legends, Pariyatra king has the son by name Hrusva Sringi born with body deformities. He went on pilgrimage and reached Mangalagiri hill and stayed there. He performed penance for Lord Narasimha for 3 years. All devatas advice the king to stay there and continue the Penance of Lord Vishnu. But King came back to his kingdom with his son. But the king took the shape of a hill as the elephant Another legend is Lord Rama visited this Mangalagiri to attain Salvation. Pandavas elder one Yudistara installed lord Narasimha here at a foot. And on this Mangalagiri Lord Narasimha killed the demon Namuchi with self-manifested Devotees used to offer the Panakam by pouring into the wide mouth of Lord. Here said that Honey was offered Krutayuga, Panakam in this Kaliyuga, Milk in Tretayuga and Ghee in Dwaparayuga. Here only half Panakam accepted by Lord and remaining will be offered to devote as Prasadam. Even there is the large quantity of Jaggery water there will be no ants present. Rare places of Narasimha swamy where he got swayambhu and is present from ages like kruthayugam,Trethyugam, Dwaparayugam , kaliyugam.. very prominent and great disciples have visited this place .. even Pandavas before starting of agnathavasa had done pooja and abhisekham to swamy as lingam.. Adi Shankaracharya had visited this place … prabhupada also visited .. all of these had visited in year 1512 .. Devathas used to give Amrutam to swamy , later it came down to panakam offering to swamy.. where how much ever quantity you offer swamy will take only half of that and the rest will be returned back to us as Prasadam.. with all these in place you won’t be able to see an ant in that place even with all the jaggery , sweetened water offered dews out and get drenched all over .. a must visit temple .. you can go in car or you can climb steps around 300 to reach swamy .. again you need to climb some more steps to see rajyalakshmi ammavaru.. and a beautiful view from the hill top … near to Vijayawada with all connectivity even from Guntur ..

It's beautiful place and located on top of mountain. Very powerful and famous temple. You must visit when you are near to this place. Darsan will take hardly 15 to 20 mins of time. But surely you will have better feeling during relaxation. Lord Narasimha Swamy is Swayambhu here and from this hill you can see beautiful view of Mangalagiri.
